About Enlight’ning’s 2015 Issue: Time (archived at right)
The work students submitted this year included a moment extended by the camera’s lens, poetry addressing a younger self, and a fast-paced video of an obstacle course seen through the eyes of the racer. Originally, the theme Enlight’ning’s editors had proposed for this year’s issue of the journal was ‘green’, but we found a different, recurring one in the works that we received: time.
Time is the most formidable destroyer of humanity, but also has a balancing characteristic as the greatest healer. Similarly, a number of the pieces published here convey dark and serious moods, depicting the struggles and hardships that we must endure in life. This solemnity is balanced out by the lightheartedness of happier submissions relating better times.
Here you will find photographs and artwork that show the viewer a different perspective on the world, whether it was seen from the bottom of a skateboard or looking into the eyes of a wild animal. We have fiction that tells about times that have never been and reflective essays that tell about times that have been lost. Some of the poetry and prose published this year slows time down with feeling and thoughtfulness, while others speed it up with tension and excitement. Each submission draws us into a different time and a different world in a different way. They are diverse, but balance each other, just like time’s dual nature.

A Brief Word on Your Reading Experience:
Though this is our second time out as an online journal, we are still working on the formatting of this edition. We have not yet created thumbnails for the individual texts, so there is a lot of screen acreage to travel in order to see all of the published pieces. Please scroll through the full edition so that you will not miss any of the students’ work. To see the pieces formatted as they are intended to be, click on the titles, either from the central feed or the category listings. Lastly, clicking on the photos and artwork will enlarge them to full screen. Enjoy!
