the flowers at his grave stood for upright moon

May 23, 2014 by Rose Guan, Grade 7

When I and reality at long last collide
it’s fight-or-flight and I’d rather hide
so, please, don’t look back,
and please never look for me.

Spray-paint signs on subway lines
claimed he was still alive.
You’ll find that they were lies,
and don’t ever look for me.

The sharp-toothed wolves are waiting:
French for eggplant is aubergine.
Keep your wits about you and
please never look for me.

When I and reality at long last collide
it’s fight-or-flight and I can’t decide
so, please, don’t look back,
and can you look for me?

Yesterday means nothing now,
tomorrow has yet to come;
brave soul, march on forward
and don’t ever look for me.

Death is not a four-letter word,
so stop saying it is.
Remember how to dream, and
please never look for me.

When I and reality at long last collide
it’s fight-or-flight and I’d rather survive
so, please, don’t look back,
and forever look for me.
